When most kids were doodling family portraits and superheroes, I was drawing floor plans. As long as I can remember I have always been drawn to all things related to making a house a home. I would daydream about the home I would live in, how it would look, and what it would feel like to walk in the door at the end of the day. I’ve always known that designing a space is my super power; it certainly isn’t singing or sports. My power includes the ability to visualize a completed space quickly down to every detail. When I walk in, I can see it as if it is already finished. As it turns out, everyone can’t do that. I think if I realized that sooner it wouldn’t have taken that me so long to figure out being an interior designer is exactly what I was meant to do. Sorry to keep you waiting!
Over the years I told myself, over and over again, one day I would get to do interior design full time as soon as the time was right. Until then, I started Nest New as a side hustle. It was my way to feel alive honestly, I had to have a creative outlet, and this was it. Helping someone walk into a room and feel the way they have always wanted lights me up on the inside.
I love all the phases and tasks required to make a house a home. From the concept, sourcing, purchasing, and project management all the way to the big reveal. It takes so much more than just being able to visualize, you also need to be diligent about details, organization, communication and ready to pivot and solve problems, with quick decisions. The more you get to know me, the more you’ll see my Virgo meticulousness side shine when presented with an opportunity, I’ll face the challenge head on and won’t settle for anything less than perfection.
I started my career working for jewelry designers managing their marketing and PR. It was the perfect job for a young fashion school grad with a degree in Visual Communications. I spent most of my twenties building brands and selling jewelry for designers, until I decided I needed something a little less Devil Wears Prada. For the last almost 11 years, I’ve been in the corporate world managing a product line for a device that grades the quality of barcodes. I know what you’re thinking, gosh that sounds boring, but it was actually a lot of fun. There was always something new to learn and some puzzle to figure out. I learned a ton about strategizing, customer support, marketing, and product development.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I will never miss answering technical support questions about barcodes but I am forever grateful for the experience. I got to juggle many hats, travel the world and learn from some great leaders. My role allowed me to work with sales and customers to train them and provide product support, I would then take what I learned to develop new product designs and launch strategies, while working with the marketing team to create the website and datasheets. For me, I loved any opportunity I’d get to make something pretty. So, I’d jump at the chance to make slide decks, or training materials, and would volunteer to plan any event I could. It ended up giving me an advantage as I am not a super technical engineer, but instead someone that can make things simple and clean. But there was no escaping the fact that while I loved the gig, it wasn’t my passion.
So here I am today, after 10 plus years Nest New is no longer my side gig. I’m taking the leap and pursing my dream full-time designing residential and commercial spaces in the Front Range of Colorado. I hope to connect with clients that want more out of their homes and workplaces. People who don’t want all grey homes, who don’t want Ikea couches or $50,000 dollar couches, they want their space to feel high-end and thought out, yet approachable and need help getting there.
Renovations are stressful, there are so many decisions to make, from the right contractor to the grout color. A home remodel or renovation is like having another full-time job and can easily end up over budget and behind schedule. I have been through home renovations myself and know firsthand what it takes to keep organized and what to look for in a contractor. As a Nest New client, I’ll do all the hard stuff and present you with a concept followed by a design plan. We’ll communicate and make decisions together along the way, depending on the service I can coordinate the purchasing and deliveries as well as oversee the subcontractors. Working with an interior designer has so many advantages aside from creating a big reveal day. We have trusted vendors, exclusive access to furniture and material lines, the knowledge of how to make a space work and expertise to prevent you from making mistakes.
Hiring an interior designer is an investment and it requires trust that I will spend hours and hours carefully picking out every item that will be a part of your everyday. Trusting me to create a design that is a true reflection of your family personality is an absolute honor. Please know my clients come first, so for now, you won’t find a beautifully curated Instagram and perfect website, but over time you’ll see my client projects come to life. With those images and my wise words of wisdom in my blogs, I hope to build your faith in Nest New and inspire you to turn your house into the home you’ve always wanted. I hope you’ll follow along. I can’t wait to see what happens!
